Lute and Early Music Pieces

Available indexes

This site holds a variety of early music pieces in various formats: transcriptions, facsimiles and concordances. In total, about 17000 individual images, 32000 individual pieces are indexed and directly searchable. Pieces are tagged according to their type: image, transcription or collection and the search can be filtered by type.

• Collections
  Collections consist of sets of files in Fandango, PDF, or Wayne Cripps tab format. They usually include multiple pieces, either from a single source or from a composer.

  • Fandango collections hold a PDF, MIDI files and occasionally facsimile images. All individual pieces are indexed in the piece titles index.
  • PDF collections hold a single PDF document and are only indexed by collection name.
  • Tab collections provide a PDF book as well as as the original tab code for each file. Each tab file file can be viewed individually as a PDF copy. If you are the owner of the tab collection you can add and edit the component tab files individually.
• Facsimile index

  This is a collection of 1200 links to facsimile books, most of them links to digital facsimiles in various libraries. Some of these works have been indexed and are searchable by piece title and composer.

  Indexed facsimiles can be viewed in tiled thumbnail dispaly or better, using the album viewer.

• Pieces index

  The pieces index combines transcriptions from the Fandango collections as well as indexed facsimile images. It is a subset of the combined index, without the Gerbode transcriptions and the McFeely concordances.

• Combined index
  This index includes all facsimile and transcription pieces by myself and sarge Gerbode, as well as the concordances provided by Julia McFeely for the Golden age of the Lute in English.
