I received the very sad news of the passing of our friend Miles Dempster. Miles contributed to two major projects on this site: a transcription of the Cherbury lute book for lute and a transcription of Castaldi's Capricci a due stromenti, for tiorba and tiorbino. In both cases, Miles put his energy and intelligence towards the completion of those ambitious projects in quite a decisive way.
Miles was a polyglot and international person, as well as a musician and one of the pioneers in the revival of the lute, providing lessons and performances as early as 1975. An engineer to boot, he coded his own tablature software, that produced beautiful output using a font of his own design. I encourage you to read his biography that shows what a well-rounded and interesting person Miles was from beginning to end. He will be missed as a true Renaissance man and we thank him for his important contributions:
